A Love Note to Going Wide
The importance of seasons and containers while wide.
Going wide is a marathon, not a sprint. And there are soooooo many options to consider and keep up with.
I’ve been experiencing this as of late in my work on both the fiction and nonfiction sides.
Well, let me be more honest about that. I haven’t been making time for fiction, because I’ve been working on the Book Sales Supercharged series a lot, and I’ve been working to meet demand of the Kickstarter frenzy with my co-author Russell.
I’ve learned that I need containers in my nonfiction business, because wide can tear authors in many directions and authors have to pick. So the people who like Kickstarter are not interested in fiction apps, and those people are not interested in audiobooks, and so on.
We can’t do everything at once while wide. So I’ve been separating out things that I teach to serve more people in the places they are at right now. We have Kickstarter spaces and containers now. And I am developing a second space, a place to talk about wide retailers, that I think will be really cool too.
This Substack space has been languishing, but I want to spend time here, and I want to connect it to all the other things I’m doing. It feels possible, but also, I don’t have the full picture at the moment. But I will start talking about it more soon. It’s marinating.
For now, I have two things to share (one that is Kickstarter-related and one that is not).
#1 - We’re doing a free webinar on Kickstarter called The 5 Places You’ll Make Money During Your Kickstarter Launch and How To Optimize Them.
I think it’s perfect for people who have heard about Kickstarter and are curious if they should try it, how money is made from campaigns, how to market your campaign, and so on.
It’s happening on Thursday, April 14 at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific.

The webinar is truly jam-packed and we answer a ton of questions we get asked regularly, but I want to be upfront that we talk about one of our Kickstarter programs at the end.
There will be a recording that stays up temporarily, so please register to receive it!

#2 - Go Wide, Grow Wide
Not interested in Kickstarter? I’ll be shifting gears soon, and talking about ads and algorithms on both Amazon and wide retailers over in my new Facebook group, Go Wide, Grow Wide - Algorithms and Advertising for Authors.
You can request to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3050254625225459/
I’ll be letting people in over the next few weeks and there is a free course on the foundations of the topic inside! It’ll open when I have enough videos from the course up.
This program is going to be really cool and very much in the vein of why I started this Substack newsletter, and the two will go together perfectly. I’m excited to get back to this work of wide that I love in a bigger way, especially after a six month detour into Kickstarter with my co-author, Russell, which has also been fun.
There’s more to come, and now that the series is close to a solid stopping point at 16 books, I feel like there’s opportunity to really work with people, go deeper on the topics, and put out stronger, expanded versions of the books that can help more wide authors. Thank you for your patience, and stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Monica
